Fan belt. 1966 cub lo boy

I'm replacing the fan belt
The one that is on it now does NOT have notches.
The belt is IH 251428r1. That is on it now.

When i called the store. The lady said;
'That number is coming up as a truck belt, WITH Notches on it"

So. Whats the story?
Does the right fan belt for this tractor come with notches?
Or..
Does the belt that is on it now.. which seemed to be working for a year or so...[which i want to replace anyway since i am doing other repairs]. Is a Notchless belt ok on this tractor?

from factory no, replacement yes , as most belts are now made that way . some are on the outside and some on the inside. the cheapy belts
are with out notches and not worth buying.

Thanks. Yeh. The one on it. Has no notches. But says it is an IH belt.
Unfortunately I live in northern nj. With no real
Farm or tractor store near by. (The so called. Tractor supply store tells me they don t handle it ). So will have to find
In line or travel a bit I guess. Thanks

No what I meant was. The current one. Only 5 years old. Is the one I am replacing That old one is an IH. And With no notches .

So looking for new one. Be it non IH or not. But a new one.

(Of course. The manual does not say a belt number
And so I am just assuming. Whoever had this tractor 5 years ago
Put the right one on then ).

(quoted from post at 11:23:26 09/24/22) A good auto parts store or an industrial supply should be able to get a
good belt for you.
Dave

Yeh. But No. Been there done that. Or I wouldn t be calling
And going on line to find a IH dealer etc. Or a real farm store So. Auto zones
And local auto stores don t sell these belts. Nor tractor
Supply.

Who knows how many different belts have
been on it? Find one that fits and run
it. Don't over think this. Lol

Find an industrial supply house and they can get you an A,B,C or whatever the belt width is they will also probably not have the bumps/notches the one you have does. The industrial belts are a bit deeper like the old originals and don't have that cord looking section in them like thoe cheap looking automotive belts with a rather flat look to them. I have been getting them for auger drive belts through Gates belt distributor here in MI. I would look at your old OEM belt if not cracked or orther distortions just put it on and run it. I would also measure it for length and width before hand though. Sometimes you can read an part number on the backside of them.

Non-notched B sized V-belts are good down to 3 diameter pulleys. If your pulleys are smaller, definitely use a notched belt.
Using a notched belt on bigger pulleys is not an issue.

Check your pulleys for alignment and wear. If the V is not crisp, it won't fit the belt well and will allow slippage, and
increased belt wear.

Also, don't forget quality. Buying the cheapest belt you can find doesn't always guarantee the best longevity.
