Fltwheel for IH 504

Still being tortured by my IH 504 Utility with clutch issues. Clutch disc and pressure plate replaced ,splines on input shaft cleaned up,disc slides freely on
imput shaft.Only way it will go in gear without grinding is to remove floorboard to allow extra clutch pedal travel. If I adjust linkage per book the three
fingers on pressure plate are lightly touching the release bearing and its turning with engine, If I back off the adjustment a little then the clutch wont release
enough to get it in gear ..Two questions, can a flywheel be resurfaced so many times that the reduced thickness throws off the geometry of the linkage. Step is
correct, have no info on min thickness.. If this is the case, can the 3 clutch fingers be adjusted to help compensate for this. Tractor is useable now but not very
convenient.Yes,flywheel was resurfaced before clutch install.

Flywheel can be surfaced to out of spec. Sure it can. 560 has a spec for the step. 504 should also if there is a step, not sure what it should be though.

Change the pedal geometry to cause additional movement. Relocating the hole in the pedal arm, or Shortening the clutch arm. Jim

there is no reason to remove that much material from the flywheel but some have done it then wonder why clutch will not work

Continuing from your other post I have linked you received the clutch pressure plate with the adjustment nuts loose and you do not give any details of how you set them. I questioned wether the clutch pressure plate may be defective. It appears you have installed it in the tractor again. Right or wrong here is what I would do to attempt to make it work without having to pull it out again. Adjust the throw out bearing an 1/8 inch away from the clutch fingers. Then adjust the fingers via their adjustment bolts so they each touch the throw out bearing again. Now after that adjustment the pressure plate should be able to have more travel to release the clutch plate. So hopefully this allows it to release better. If that does not work you may have to repeat that adjustment if it does not work. I have to admit I have no idea if you have enough room to make these adjustments. There is of course a point where if the adjustment does not work that you will have proven that the pressure plate is indeed defective.

Is it possible the thrust bearing is worn out on crankshaft, allowing the crank to move forward not allowing clutch to release. Also shims can be made to put between crank and flywheel if too much material was removed from flywheel.

maybe compare the old parts with the new parts if you still have the old ones and see if theres a difference , never heard of such problems with a clutch like your descibing ,

Did You spin the new disc on the clutch shaft or other rod to see if it is warped? if warped it will drag no matter what. Jim
