GENERATOR FAN BELT REPLACEMENT 1966 CUBLOBOY IHC

MORNING ALL. I removed the Hood of my 1966 IHC to a broken 3 year old generator belt. i saw a video on HOW TO. said to hold fan back lock nut, as you loosen the 5/8" nut nearer to the blade pulley [to eventually loosen everthing so you can get bad belts off and new on].. My problem. tht 5/8 nut wont budge. no way to get into it really easily. i am wondering if it is a reverse thread maybe? or anyother way to solve problem of getting old belts off etc ? thanks.!

No to reverse thread. It is a good idea to try and hold the rear nut so as to not strip or break the sliding post on the timing cover, that captures the nut. Can be hard to hold though. If I remember correctly, removing the air cleaner makes this job easier. If you do, watch for coolant loss through bolt holes. If it starts leaking, lower the coolant level.

Next we can talk about getting the bolster coolant plug out :)

Edit:
Soak the nut with penertrant, keep soaking, keep soaking. The nut you're trying to turn is part of the fan shaft. You'll be turning the shaft out of the rear nut.
May wanna put on a new fan belt while your there.
Resist the urge to remove the governor for clearance. Everything's pretty tight on these llitte Cubs. If you do remove the governor, we can then talk about timing the gear for re-installation :)

wow that was quick.
ok. so not a reverse thread.. just a real hard nut to turn :0( yes, the video i saw said NOT to turn that back nut, but yes to hold it [actually my wrench can easily get to it to hold, not true with the Nut that needs the turning..as you mention. Also...yes the oil air filter is in way - and i really dont want to start playing with taking that off :0/. i learned anytime you starting removing something Old means another issue later on . ....yeh. i did try last night your idea of ppenetratn [ i sparyed some on best i could. again. hard to get a spary in there on that old nut. everyting is in the way.. and figured i would also then be greasing up the fan belt pully accidently with over spray.

Pretty safe removing the air cleaner. Two bolts and the breather tube. Just watch what you're doing. Lot less work than replacing a broken front timing cover. Good time to adjust the alignment of the air cleaner tube through the hood.

Also good time to fill the fan hub with oil. Ask if unfamiliar

Good evening.. i guess you mean your comment about coolant out of the 2 bolt holes on the oil air filter... nope. Nothing came out of them when i removed the canister [note, that was a job in itself since the 2 bolts are behind the canister and there is not room for a Rachel wrench, only a short open end barely :0/ ] buti got it off and out.. and was able to reach the an main inside nut [not the end one that is ony used to HOLD o nto]. [i also first tried to simply remove the radiator hose above all t his. To no avail too. So. Lots of parts lying around at his point :0). Just to eventually put a new generator belt on / thanks.
