Farmall 560 LP help

So I'll start off by saying that
I am a JD guy so I don't know
anything about red tractors and
even less about propane tractors.
I recently bought a Farmall 560
LP from my Father in Law. It had
been setting for a couple of
years but starts and runs great.
The problem is that the propane
tank is leaking somewhere....I
can smell it around the gauge. My
question is can I completely
empty the tank and pressurize it
with air to look for leaks?

It had 10% in it when I brought it home a couple of weeks ago and is now less than 5%. It's going to be empty by the time I get to it so that's why I was wondering about the air idea

If leaking around gauge, titen screws holding it in. Proably leaks with temp changes. Can be fixed with emptying tank and replace oring. Donot use air, use LP to pressure up.

Do you close the tank valves when not in use, if not could be leaking at tubing connection, filter or heat exchanger (evaporator) leaking.
