Super A shutters

I recently salvaged an old Super A and am in process of restoring it, Gas fueled and has shutters, my question is, why would the shutters be spring loaded to the closed position?

(quoted from post at 12:17:33 09/16/22) I recently salvaged an old Super A and am in process of restoring it, Gas fueled and has shutters, my question is, why would the shutters be spring loaded to the closed position?
Not familiar with the setup, but I would think spring loaded to help them close and keep linkages snugged up. My allis shutter linkage would basically unscrew if not spring loaded to keep all linkages in correct position.

I would have thought that it would be more important for the shutters to be normally open
and only closed by hand??

I believe closed was the preferred position, tractor running on distillate runs much cooler than gasoline. Is the rod still there to screw them open?

Gas fueled and there is an operating rod to open or close the shutters Just thought that if they would accidently become inoperative that the would be better spring loaded open, no matter they are working as is Thanks for input

Same on my Farmall M and Farmall H tractors, both of which are set up for kerosene. Shutters are spring loaded to close. The rod pushes them open against the spring. Not sure why the spring is that way - it does stop the shutters from rattling when the motor is running.
