Any tips on acquiring a new bolt on Pitman for this mower? I know Tractor Supply and others have blanks but I might as well just carve one from an oak board.

If making your own, the length is the big
thing. Gotta be the right length when you
get done, and put back together. How the
rest of it turns out or looks like when
done, doesn't really matter. Or the other
dimensions. But the correct length, HAS to
be right! If not, your sickle will be off,
and mower will not work right.

Replacement sticks have multiple holes for
bolting on the hardware (the ends). The
multiple holes are there to bolt the ends
on using the apropriate holes to come up
with the correct length.
If you are making your own, you might have
to play a little bit of the guessing game.
But through trial and error, you should be
able to accomplish this feat. You might
have to discard, if you make one to short.
Or you might have to saw some more
off/drill some more holes if you make it to
long.

The sickle should travel an equal distance
both ways in relation to the guards and
have a correct stopping point when it
changes direction, when done. If your
length is off, it messes up the sickle
travel back and forth through the guards
and have an incorrect placement when it
changes directions.
Hard to explain. Easier to show ya, than to
tell ya. But I think you get the drift.

I have this same mower. I went to my local Case IH dealer and he had one on the shelve. The part number listed below is the correct number. He did say they
probably would not replace it, but the warehouse did stock them. I took the one off the shelve and had him order me a spare. They came to $29.56 each. If you wait until they get an order from the warehouse, they won't charge freight. I put a couple light coats of clear Kylon paint on mine to protect them. I put grade 5 bolts
in both ends of mine and used lock nuts on all of them. Depending on how much you use the mower, mine would loosen up. Two other things, my dealer also got me the
pitman bearing in the picture. It was pricy at over $60.00. Binder Books has a complete parts manual and operating manual for that mower. This is the only picture I have of it. I use mine on a Super C with the fast hitch.

Thanks Rick. All good info. Mine came with the original Operators Manual. Good idea with the barrel.
