Farmall 544 won't start

Good evening folks,

I have a gas gear drive farmall 544- 1973 I think. Love this tractor!

However... I am having issues with it not firing all of a sudden. I have good spark on the plugs and the points are set properly and aren't corroded. I've cleaned the carb recently (within the past few months). I have verified that the fuel line isn't plugged by removing the fuel line from the carb and noting gas coming out.

I've been reading about the fuel shut off solenoid going bad once in a while- how would I go about testing this? Or is there something else I should investigate first?

Just prior to this happening I found a short in the light switch caused by that little power block falling apart (it was build out of some sort of plastic that just crumbled). I haven't gotten the new power block yet, but I've fixed the issue by disconnecting the lights and cigarette lighter. Could this have fried something with the fuel shut off solenoid?

Thanks so much for any help anyone can give me!

Kind regards,
Ben

For one you should hear a click when the solenoid is
plugged in with the key on. If your fuel gauge still
works and the engine still cranks I would say that the
small junction terminal you said broke apart is not
affecting power to the engines electrical system. I will
attach a link to the wiring diagram for your tractor.
Make sure you are looking at the one for a gas 544.

If it cranks as Used red mentions just run a wire to the solenoid from the battery for a test if it starts then either the terminal junction you are in need of has broke the connection or there is a bad connection somewhere else in the circuit or the solenoid is bad if it doesn't click when you put the test wire on it.
