We are in the process of putting new gauges in the Farmall 460. Everything was going well until my son tried to removed the temperature sensor by the exhaust manifold. The sensor turned out no problem - but the brass insert that the sensor turns into was/is another issue. The head of it snapped off when he put a socket on it. I bought a larger easy out to try and turn it out - no go so far - it just peels off the inside of the insert. How hot can you get the brass to turn it out? I don't know if it is the original sensor but I am fairly certain if has been out before - the engine was said to have been overhauled in the late 1990s when the last owner bought it.
I am afraid there is a good chance this has had some type of thread locker or permatex put on it to seal it up. It has to come out because the new gauge comes with its own insert and would not turn into the old one. Can you get it hot enough with a propane torch or do you need a acetylene torch to get it hot enough? Any suggestions beside heat to get it out?
