M Flooding at Start

My 47 M has started flooding out when trying to start. It used to start well and even need a little bit of choke to get it running. Now as soon as I try to start, it doesn't want to fire and gas starts to drip
out of bottom of carb. I normally have the gas shut off between use, so whatever is happening is happening as soon as the gas is turned on. Once I'm able to get it running after a lot of cranking and little to
no throttle, it runs well. I'm thinking it's either a stuck or gas-logged float...other thoughts?

Float valve stuck or dirty, floats catching on something , only way is look ,clean everything replace needle and seat , set the float level to blueprints ( spec) .
Clean sediment bowl out and clean screen and inspect and replace gasket .
Clean fuel lines
Got to look at entire fuel system.
Do you turn fuel off and run it out at shutdown ?

Normally I'll shut off the valve and run it out of gas when it's going to sit for a while, don't always do it during the summer when it's getting used regularly. But will shut off the valve regardless.

I've never seen a old Farmall that didn't drip gas from the carb if you crank it much and it doesn't start. Mine will all do that - all 11 of them. If the carb is OK it will stop dripping once the bowl level goes back down to normal. I would suspect you have some other problem not starting than the carb.

if the float is heavy with gas in it, no way its going to run good once it starts. it will be chugging black smoke. and also if it sits with the sediment bowl valve open you will see it dripping out the carb bottom. so i see nothing related to the carb from your description. and that is the purpose of the hole in the bottom of the carb so the gas can run away when being choked. i would check you points for being closed and also check to make sure they are gapped at .020 then check the timing. check the spark with the coil wire pulled out slightly so you can see and hear the spark jumping. these tractors start with one flip of the starter. totally not necessary to be shutting gas off at tank each shut down.

What does it do if you leave gas turned on, and let tractor sit not running? And not trying to start it?

If it drips gas then, and continuously drips gas out the bottom of carb, then you either got a messed up float, or an issue with needle valve shut off above the float inside the carb.

Alot of replacement needle valves are rubber tipped. You'd think those would be better. But my experience has been otherwise. Haven't had much luck with those. I no longer put that kind in if they are included in a carb kit. I don't re-use one if I find one during a carb tear down. Might keep that in mind if you take your carb apart, and find the needle valve is rubber tipped.
