706 starter problems

Today the starter on my 706 was making a grinding noise so I took it off. After removing the starter I noticed that the teeth on the flywheel and starter drive were ground down about 1/16 an inch, there are metal shaving in the flywheel housing as well. Any ideas on what would cause the starter drive to not fully engage the flywheel?

Normal on a high hour starter. Everytime you start it you grind a fuzz off the drive and flywheel. Eventually it catches up with you and fails. Some just do it faster than others for no reason.

New starter bendix and you'll be back in business. Have seen fly wheels alot worse than just 1/16 worn off the teeth.

Like said change the drive. If you still have problem you have to turn flip or change the ring gear on the flywheel. Since engines stop in the same couple spots when you shut them down they will wear the same few spots. The reason for one of the options turn flip or replace. You do have to split the tractor for that part.
