Got the fuel system

Well putting in more fuel in the tank did work, Thanks Cat Guy and Delta,But now i have very little fuel pressure on that gauge, is that oil pressure or fuel pressure, it says oil pressure, but its barely off the peg, I did change oil in that pump body last fall, and it comes out the bleeder, so explain that to me !

Come on fast why would they put an oil pressure gauge on there? The gauge has no commas on the face but is really saying ..Fuel Oil, Pressure.. Because Fuel Oil was the name they used for Diesel fuel back then. The gauge is supposed to tell you a filter plug, see the link for a previous post with more info. The lubrication oil is kept at a high enough level to splash oil the parts that need it. The picture gives a good look at the fuel flow through the pump and filter. If you want to have a copy of the book which is an early published IH service manual you can email me and I will give you the info on how to get it. It is available on the web. I just prefer not to post a link to it here on the forum because YT sells manuals. Those characters that know these things must be out on a big weekend or at a tractor show. Some are early morning posters so we will see what anyone else has to say.

The gauge is for the fuel pressure and will vacillate as the pressure does. Should as I recall be about straight up when running. whether on fuel or gas. The reservoir is for engine oil to lubricate the workings of the pump. It will fill up with fuel if the seal is shot. Since I'm not sure if there are any parts for those pumps and dad was cheap he never pulled the pump to have it fixed so we just drained off the fuel and added some oil occasionally. We still do that now if we run it. Don't run it much anymore. To small for most jobs and dad didn't find it handy like the H. It steers hard so he didn't like to drive it.

As for the barely off the peg I would try a different gage might be the gage or it might be that low on pressure. Not sure how much pressure it is supposed to be just the gage goes straight up when running. I would guess it would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 150-300PSI A service book would tell you. The gage change would tell you if the gage is bad or your fuel pressure is low or both. With both filters changed and clean it will register the hihgest and drop as the filters plug or restrict. We just changed them annually I believe wheter they needed it or not. Never had a problem with the fuel system as far as running so must have worked and it had to start everyday on the feeding wagon at the time.

The earlier primary pumps ran 55 to 60 pounds and the later ones were dropped down to 35 to 40 pounds to increase pump life.

The gauge looks like its not original, usually they say operating range, and a red zone on the left, so i suppose was it the all they had to put on their!!!
