Installing new spark plugs on the gas side of the super MD. Took D-89D plugs out and wondering if they can be replaced with auto lite plugs or need to stick with the original style plugs that have the longer electrode.

I have a wd9 and an smta diesel and have tried different brand of plugs but they didn't work out. Always went back to Champion. Got the best deal at O'riley's a couple of years ago, Gary.

the brand dont mean a thing! what is important is the long reach plugs you took out. that is a must! i did my own experiment with the standard plugs and found out they make it very very hard to start. put the long reach in and started like it should. dont forget your only using the plugs for starting and one set of plugs can last the tractor lifetime. brand of plugs here is neither here nor there, nothing to get all worked up about. all my gas start have the D89D plugs. probably 20.00 each by now.

I agree with the comment that the plugs should last the life of a gas start diesel. If I happen to have the plugs out, I clean them up, set the gap and put them back in. We have ran gas start diesels for nearly 70 years on the family farm, some tractors with over 10,000 hours on the clock and have never bought a new set of plugs. The plugs don't deteriorate like a straight gas engine due to the short operating time. And yes, if you are buying new, spend the extra money and get the ones with the long electrode designed for these engines. They are designed that way for a reason.
