Good Morning,
I am in the process of putting a DT468 into my 1586. (The original 436 spun a bearing and was left to freeze with water in the block by previous owner). I just got the 468 head, crank and block back from the machine shop. I was hoping to reuse the sleeves and pistons out of the 468, but once I cleaned them up I could find pinholes in the sleeves, and most of the pistons have small nicks and gouges out of the tops. The 436 has the valve cover breather and the 468 has the side mount breather.

Here is my question- which breather should I use, and with what piston and rings, wide, narrow, 3 ring, 4 ring, etc?

Thank you,

David

First of all. Does 468 have the large side breather or small one like original 400 series engines? If large one, use it. If not, use top breather.

I would use wide gap second ring three ring piston. Can't speak to four ring piston as they were not available during my years.

Also make sure rocker arm assembly have oil jets on all supports.
