Has anyone replaced the pto shaft seal on a B? My
IH Dealer is unable to cross P/N 48114D. Or is
there any other solution to a leak? Thanks John

I ordered 2 today from Davis Farm Equipment in Tipton, IA. Phone 319-886-6175. I had to dig the old one out and it wasn't fun. I didn't have a puller big enough to get gear off and remove shaft. New ones are thinner but work just fine.

What gear are you talking about? The pto seal is installed in the casting around the pto shaft. It's just a tap thru fit, are you talking about something else, or am I missing something?.Dave

I'm talking about the gear inside the tractor on the PTO shaft. I had the whole PTO assembly off (doing other things) and wanted to get the PTO shaft out so I could tap the seal out instead of dig it out. The PTO gear on the inside is really tough to get off, in fact I couldn't. After I wrecked my puller I decided to stop.

I changed mine on A's & B, I got the seal either from Napa, or the local bearing and seal store. I've got them from IH too. Maybe the guy at the IH store is incompetent...the number is: National 48954D. The new ones are only half as thick, so I bought two of them, and doubled them up. I also used #2 permatex to seal up the sleeve. It seems like a screwey design, (the sleeve), but with a little care, they won't leak...

Today's Featured Article - Search For Spares - by Anthony West (UK). Following on from the aquisition of the old Fordson F, I was very much in need of spares. As a novice though I didn't appreciate the fact that there were so many Fordson tractors made, that all the other makes seem rare by comparison. As far as I was aware a fordson was a fordson and it was only through trial an ... [Read Article]
