Trying to get a Gas Cap for my 1949 IH Farmall H

Hi All, Looking to get a Gas Cap for my 1949 IH Farmall H online. My tractor is 60 miles away, no way to measure neck ID or OD...
I sent an email to customer service here and got this reply:
(I would need to know some dimensions of the cap your replacing or the part number. I have no way of knowing what is on your tractor or what the correct replacement is without that information. You could call a Case/IH dealer with your serial number and/or tractor number and they should be able to help you with the correct replacement part number. Otherwise my guess is as good as yours.)
So maybe someone here knows the neck ID and OD for an IH H
tractor that can help me out. Here are two part numbers I found on this site:
(Fuel Cap Part Number 40756D and Fuel Cap Part Number 23995DA) one of this cap should work but which one.
I hate to make a 120 mile round trip to measure neck ID or OD for a 10 dollar gas cap...Thanks...

I believe that all Farmalls had the same size gas caps. If you Google IH free gas cap you can get a free gas cap. If you know your serial number you can have a free one sent to you.

Go to IH gas cap.com and put in your tractors serial number and they will send you a replacement cap as long as no one else has sent in that number.
They started replacing regular caps with safety caps back in the eighties I believe

Thanks for the comeback guys, I saw the website earlier today but I do not have the serial number at this time. I would still have to drive 120 miles to get it. But I guess I'll hold off a bit on the gas cap. I'm going to trailer the tractor back to the house to work on it. I know what has to be done and I was trying to order all the parts that I know I'm going to need ahead of time. The main repairs are cleaning the complete fuel system, and rewiring it.

it dont matter what cap you have on it now. all these old tractors all use the same cap. when u order or call in your order you will be
getting the taller cap. serial # required from gas cap . com.

Ok Guys, Sounds like a plan. When I get the tractor to the house I'll go gascap.com and get a new free fuel cap on the way back to me, hope there is not a long wait on it, I saw a message on the site that said (Due to the high demand on gas caps that it could a few weeks for the gas cap to get shipped).

No worries, just hated to see someone get malware or ransomware on their computer by making a simple typo and ending up on the wrong website.

You could save the delay and simply order a new gas cap for about $20. As stated earlier they all fit the same. Make sure you get the tall, aka "triple baffle" gas cap. The short caps are original but dangerous. People getting severely burned is how this free gas cap program came about in the first place, and why it has continued for 35 years after International Harvester ceased to exist as a farm equipment company.

Oh, and I just thought of something else. Navistar, the company that is/was putting on the gas cap program, was recently sold and no longer exists, so the future of the gas cap program may be in jeopardy.

I got a cap from north star. I love it . No leaks ,should have done it years ago. Wasted more gas on the Farmall c ,s than I should put a pencil to the cost
. Really good to change to new one .
