Picked up a B awhile back and trying to clean it up a bit. I would like to replace the transmission cover gasket, do I just shift it to neutral or put it in a certain gear ? 2nd question, it has magneto on it, so when I got it, it had a rusty toggle switch on it for on/off, I had a mag switch as I call it that every Farmall had on it from the factory has two lugs on in, I hooked one wire to the magneto and the other to ground, try pull the knob out to start it and it doesnt fire, push the knob in and it starts right up, I turned the wires around and it made no difference. Whats wrong with this ? Thanks all !

Yes, put it in neutral and lift the cover straight up. When reinstalling, line it up to go straight down. After you stick in the first couple bolts, try shifting into each gear to make sure you didn't miss a gear with a fork. If you missed, reposition each sliding gear in neutral and try again.

Your switch with 2 lugs is for battery ignition. Hooked up as you did with a magneto will work backwards, as you found. Pulling that switch connects the two lugs together to feed voltage to a coil, or in your case ground the magneto. The magneto switch has one lug that is grounded to the shell of the switch when it is pushed in.
