Hy-Tran over fill

How serious is it if a 574 got filled with Hy-Tran above the full mark on the dipstick? Dipstick is small. less than an inch from add mark to full mark.I added maybe 2 quarts and geez it was above the full mark.

(quoted from post at 23:46:32 09/11/21) Does that recommendation go for the little tractors as well?

No.

It's not even a "recommendation" for the large tractors. Overfilling only addresses one very specific issue with the large tractors, but people try it as a cure-all for anything from a flat tire to a hangnail.

However it does not hurt a thing.

For wolfman, if you only added 2 quarts, how overfull can it really be? Most likely you're just picking up sloshed oil on the dipstick. Let it sit overnight and check again.

Hi, overfilling a 574 with Hytran will not damage anything and if you overfill by too much it will come out the dipstick tube when hot.
Often owners will overfill by 5 gallons if there is a loader installed.
Because that model of tractor has multiple chambers in the trans/diff and there is a transfer pump to keep the Hytran fluid equalized between the chambers.
If the tractor hasn't been running for a while, the recommended method to check the Hytran level is with tractor sitting on level ground, start the engine and let it run at about 1500 RPM for a couple minutes and then shut off the engine and check the transmission dipstick level.

No. Small frame IH tractors do not have Oring and suction tube issues like the large frame can have. Over filling some woun't hurt, but won't help either. Extreme over filling can push out oil through seals and out vents when the oil changes volume through heating from work. Jim
