BHroke my H

Well, I did an idiot thing recently. Was backing my H off the trailer and missed the middle ramp and dropped the front end off the trailer and broke the center section away from the rear/trans. I was soooo miffed that I got it moved out of the driveway but don't know what to do now. I found a barebones center section but it is $250.00 dollars and another $ 200.00 to get it here. And the H being my loader tractor I have no way to get it off the truck. And the no way to split her and fix it. And labor to fix it its going to cost more that the old girl is worth. So do I fix it or part it out? And will the rear tires / rims fit on a Case DC rear? I have a DC that is need of rear tires and the H has really good tires on her. Any advice will be greatly appreciated... kenny

Darn, that's to bad, as far as the tractor goes, maybe its time to move up to a M Farmall, it will be a lot easier to just switch tractor's in my opinion . Look and see if they both have 11-38 tires, or the same size!

Wow they are proud of that housing. Entire scrap H will go
for $200. If no one else closer chimes in I can get you one
cheaper than that. It would ship from KS, may be some
waiting involved I would have to go down to my uncles (500
mi) and pull if off the scrap carcass. How far did it drop?
Must have been a previous break or crack in it. I have seen
those things take a pretty good beating without breaking.

yikes, now it time for a wide front. i do know farmall M rims are the same as the DC4 rims and fit each other. my H as a slightly different
rim plus narrower.

You got a concrete pad to work on? All you need is a good engine hoist, a floor jack, one or two bottle jacks and some wood cribbing. Just take it apart piece by piece, and put it back together piece by piece.

You don't have to move the entire half of the tractor. Pull the front end off, then the frame rails, then the engine, then the torque tube. Everything can be lifted by the engine hoist.

Buy the hoist off Craigslist, use it, and sell it for what you paid. Sometimes you can even make some money on the deal.

As far as getting parts, they made almost 400,000 Farmall H's. There has to be a parts tractor closer to you. The part you broke is not commonly broken so it's the last thing to get sold off a parts tractor usually. Keep your eyes open for a couple weeks. I bet you'll find something.

The REAL reason that it broke where it did is because the bolts holding it the trans/rear end were loose. 90% of the H Farmalls out there probably have the same issue. A few years ago I parted out an H that I had been using, been it had some issues. The bolts up inside the torque tube were so loose that I barely even needed a wrench. If you own an H, get under there and tighten those bolts.

Hi guys, yes she had been broke once before in the early '60s. Dad worked in the IH shop and that was one of the first tractors he picked up as the truck driver. I was able to track it back to the original owners. I am sure that was probably the reason she did it again. Hopefully before winter sets in I can get it fixed. thanks for all the support I sure appriciate it.........kenny
