black tires

Back in the early 80's I fixed up a 51 M farmall. I put new tires on the front but the back tires were still decent. My Dad mixed up something that blackened the tires but didn't make them shine. They looked like new ones and I was wondering if anybody else has done this. The Super M I'm doing is going in the same direction new front skins and good back tires but need to blacken them. All I remember was a can of tar I think and gas or thinner and he brushed it on. My dad was a gas station attendant years ago and they did stuff like this.

would try a product called Back to Black. You can get it at most auto parts stores. There are several products similar to this.
