1967 International Cub Lo Boy questions

Bought this from a neighbor. 1967 per tag. Idles/starts well but needs a carb rebuild. several kits on the web.... any special things I need to know about getting the right kit?
Shop manual on the way. In the meantime, how do you check the trans oil? No dipstick that I can find. GL4 OK for the diff? I will change it but don't see a level indicator.
Thanks

There should be a numbered tag in a copper circle on the top of the top 1/2. This site sells good kits.

On my cub the dip stick is part of the oil fill plug so good chance it is on that one also. As for the carb kit if you have a local O'Reilly's auto parts store take the carb with you to the store and they are likely to have or be able to get you a kit in less then 24 hours

Down on the left side (as you are sitting in the seat) there is a small square headed plug (1/4 in) plug on the transmission. Remove it and start filling from the fill hole. It is full when when fluid starts running out of it.

I have several Cubs. Go ahead and drain
the transmission. Plug on bottom. Refill
with 1.5 quarts of 85-140. Every one I
own was over full and had nasty , watery
fluid in it. Over full can get past
seals and on to brakes. Good looking
tractor!

there is a level check plug on the side of the transmission housing , should be a square headed plug , fill to the bottom . any 80-90 is fine . As for the carb One must becareful when taking one of them apart and NOT break the little brass tube hanging down off the top half . As for the kit usually all that is needed is thew carb to intake and base to top gskt and a needle and seat . No a can of spray carb cleaner is NOT a rebuild and other then taking the crud off the outside will do nothing for any nasty's in the tinny passages and ports. They need a hot tub bath in real carb cleaner and all tiny passages need cleaned with little drill bits . then blowen out with compressed air after the hot tub bath then a good rinse in hot soapy water then a rinse in clean clear water and blow dry.

Thanks to all for the good advice.
Does this particular model have number designation? I see 184, 185, 214 mentioned on the net, seems a little confusing to me.

The 184 and 185 were labeled as International Cubs instead of Farmall Cubs. Basically same motor but a different style of tractor. I have a 184 with a belly mower I use for mowing my yard.

The little fill plug is in a most inconvenient place. As they said, on the left side (about equal to the gear shifter) almost next to the left axle. PITA because of the left brake rod

Thanks for the help.
Changed the trans oil...... chocolate milk as expected. Will drive it around a bit and change it again. 1-1/2 quarts is cheap.
Once carb is back on, need to figure out why governor isn't working properly. Motor acts like is has no power, my bet is the governor linkage is not set properly. Motor smokes a little, but not enough to worry me.

It's the IH carb. Offically the "3/4-inch updraft." An IH carb is an IH carb from the first one to the last one. All the same. You want a kit for the IH carb. There are basic kits and deluxe kits.

No brass tag on it so don't bother looking. All you need is the IH logo cast into the side.

The basic kits I've found have the wrong needle and seat. Maybe that has been remedied but I doubt it. The deluxe kit from Steiner is VERY nice, worth the money.
