In changing my magneto to a distributor, do I need to change the Mag. slotted drive plate to a distributor drive?

ANY "battery ignition unit" that will work on your "Super A"
will simply bolt to the mag mounting flange and engage with the drive slot in the governor gear.

There's no other option for that engine, AFAIK.

The drive on the back of the governor is the same for either a Magneto or a Distributor. What you do need when changing is the Distributor Drive Housing and the Distributor Drive Shaft. Be sure the splines on the shaft and on the bottom of the distributor itself are in good shape. Seen these wear to the point of slipping.
