Good Evening All
I am working on a 1964 IH B414 with a BC144 gas engine. This tractor is mainly used for loader duties around the farm yard and for firewood in the fall. The gas engine is getting very tired and is low on oil pressure and compression so a rebuild is in the future. With the price of fuel and the availability of parts for the gas models it seems like swapping for a diesel would be the route to go.
Can anyone tell me if the block for the BC144 gas and BD144 diesel will bolt up to the 8 speed transmission without the use of an adapter plate. Also curious if the BD154 will bolt up as I have heard it would be a small upgrade to the 144 in terms of cold starts.
Also if possible can someone explain out the difference between the 144's and 154.
Thanks!
