cub sickle mower

My Cub sickle bar is not at right angle to tractor travel. I do not see any means to bring the tip forward other than moving the front square mount farther out, then the square mount bar with the set screw is not engaged very far. Is that normal or am I missing some other means of adjustment?
I think the sickle bar tip should be a couple inches forward from direction of travel.

?That is what I thought. Maybe I am too concerned about the smaller engagement of the square front mount. I kept trying to figure out a different position of the mount that would pull the sickle bar tip forward.

How far is it out of square with tractor? When I installed my mower they made two differen't length of rods going from square bar to mower. I had to send it back and have another one sent to me.

If there are 2 different rods, I wish I knew which I have and what the other was! I will try and measure mine.

You put the square bar in from the left side with the part the bar attaches to sticking down. Adjust the lead by sliding the rod in/out. It engages only one setscrew.

It has worked for 70 years without shortening the bar. No reason it won't now.

70 years of wear and tear egging out the holes, plus an encounter with an unseen obstacle and not getting the clutch pedal pushed quick enough or two over the years could stretch the rod eyes open. It wouldn't take much.

As long as the bar engages one set screw it is fine, but find yourself a nice sunny afternoon, bring the tractor out on the lawn, and deploy the mower. Lower it to the ground and find out how much shorter the bar would need to be to get he correct angle. Most likely you won't need to do much more than close up the eye on the mower end of the bar a bit.

The eye on the bar end of the rod should be closed. If you can unhook it, it's stretched. Make a friend with an oxy-acetylene torch or a forge if you don't have either. Heat the eye and close it back up.
