Looking for gas-start magneto for WD-9

Got my WD-9 in from ND, and I've been cleaning up the fuel system. Finally got clean gas to the carb, and no spark. Some PO had wire in an external coil.

I wasn't getting fire, so I ordered a new coil, points, condense, rotor, and cap. Welll, when I opened her up ther was no coil in the mag, and no magnets either. They have gutted it.

I really want to keep it mag ignition. Where can I find a good magneto?

you will need the counterclockwise mag for the diesels. wd9 , w9, and wd6 will work. w9 is the only gas counterclockwise mag. just need to
hunt around. i have seen them advertized in red power magazine also.

No magnets????????????? they are part of the rotor. Is the impulse assembly
there?

I have a counterclockwise IH mag for a diesel that will spark and with new points, should spark very good. I will sell for $100 plus shipping if you are interested. Email is open.

Yes, shiuld have mentioned that Inhave a couple of the clockwise mags. I had a 39 H that I ran for several years with no battery or starter.

Note that there is a difference in the lag angle in the impulse couplings on the mags between the -9 series gas and the gas start diesels. The gas start diesel mags only have about 5 degrees of lag angle. The -9 series gas have around 15, I believe. You can put a different impulse coupling on the -9 series gas mag but you would be better off actually getting a mag for a gas start diesel. Brian

I think John Brillman sells rebuilt mags for the gas start diesel. Never hurts to call him.

Yeah, was looking at service manual, and they don't show the rotor except in a "keeper" outside the unit. I looked at the larts book and it is just the shaft, so i guess the magnets are there.

The impulse doesn't appear to be catching either. I've replace points and condense before, but I've never torn into the impulse coupling. According to the manual, a "special tool" is used.
