W4/Farmall H Cut out

Generator charges but the cut out won't cut in unless you manually close the points. Shut tractor off and points will open. What can done for to work properly... Or what is problem.

If the cutout points spring is just a smidge too strong, or the points open restraint tab allows the points to open too far (by even .010") they wont close. I would adjust them closer with that restraint before adjusting the spring. Very little can be too much. Jim

Might also try running a piece of fine sandpaper across the contacts. Maybe there is some corrosion there. I literally just finished up my Super C charging system an hour ago. It has a voltage regulator on it instead of a cutout but I could only get it to charge when bypassing the VR. Once I cleaning the contacts, it worked perfectly.

Make sure you have a good ground between the cut-out and the generator.

Sandpaper or other abrasive cloth will leave grit in the points. Use a point file if you clean the points.
