My Brother-in-law had a #2404 for his loader tractor when he first started farming. The loader was beefy beyond the tractor's ability to tear it up, dry clutch and shuttle shift. Had the typical block of concrete hanging off the 3-pt about a yard of concrete, and chains year-round. Wasn't able to get into tight spaces so a skid steer replaced it. The 2404 was his auger tractor when combining. One day getting ready to combine he pulled the extended dipstick to check the oil in it. The tip staked to the flexible dipstick broke off! He ran to town, the local IH dealer had the right dipstick, and all the seals and gaskets, He carried everything out to the tractor hooked to the auger and drained the oil, pulled the pan and there were FOUR dip stick ends in the pan! He replaced the pan, installed new oil & filter, was getting late to start combining.
It was the only IH He or his Dad ever had. Was a WD-45 and a D-17 in his Dad's shed for years, starting about 1958 everything has been green.
Had to laugh at his Dad, when he still fed cattle, He'd have a neighbor bring his 560 and chopper and silage wagons to fill silo, borrow My Dad's M to run the blower, and haul in with his WD-45 or D-17 because his 2 cylinder Deere's weren't smooth enough on the pto.

Or local High shcool Ag Farm had a military 340. It had a hydralic pump but no 'factory' valveing. They cobbled some kind of hydralic valves to it to run a Speeco 3 point and a very heavy wagner loader.What a piece of junk.

That came from Visscher's auction last Saturday, right?

I'd like to find an old army half track to fix up. Come in handy for the grocery runs to town when it snows. Next choice would be an old deuce and a half.
