What we've got here is....

failure to make sense! So, is the tester a fibber or is it the gauge? There are however, no numbers on the gauge, so it might as well be pointing at the floor.

Both readings are with the engine wide open. According to the tach, it's just a hair under 2000 RPM. Is that charging rate a little low? Thought it was supposed to be 14v or 15v. There's still a genny on it if you're wondering.

I find no inconsistencies with both readings. The battery is being charged at probably 9 or 10 amps. The voltage is what I would expect when charging into a battery that is 80% charged (with a generator). If the battery was fully charged, the charging rate in amps would be ~ 2 amps or less, and the voltage would be ~ 14.2 to 14.5. Jim

On a 12 volt system 13-15 volts is just fine. How long had it been running before you checked voltage?? It could have run log enough to have the VR slow the charge rate due to the battery being charged up

ammeter showing perfectly normal, and usually less once tractor has been used for a while. plus depends on battery's state of charge. mine on first start goes right over to the C then drops off. all depends how regulator is set also. volts are good also. i just forget if thats a 20 0r 30 amp ammeter all is fine. plus you are showing two separate readings like volts vs amps.

15 minute is more then enough to bring the battery back to a full charge or very close

I was told at the dealership that the battery was on the shelf for a few years. If there's anything wrong, I can give them a call they'll order up a new one & exchange it. Had also wondered if the regulator is messed up from diesel fuel raining down on it when the return line leaked. Maybe the generator is not doing it's thing because I didn't polarize it? It wasn't disconnected for quite a whole year. Didn't think it needed it for that little bit of time.

Mike

you bet, glow plugs are a big draw on the battery and thats why they came out with two 6 volt battery's.

Good to know. I saw the twin six setup in the manual. Also seen a few suggestions to run a pair of 12's here. Are those supposed to be in parallel or do I run them in series at 24v & drop the lighting & whatnot down to 12v?

Mike

Where do you get the idea that the generator is NOT "doing it's thing?"

The ammeter is showing a charge. You've got 13.82V at the battery at the same time. That's a win in my book, as long as it stays that way.

Essentially calibrating my knowledge to everybody else's. Had thought the generator was supposed to charge about a volt higher & I'm not used to
seeing the ammeter staying that high. The consensus is, everything is all good. I'm content with that.
