I have a 1946 Farmall B and I have the opportunity to purchase a Woods 59 belly mower. My question is can I attach this to my B. I do not have any hydraulics on the B so I was not sure if this is something that I could install or not. Please advise. Thanks.

Where there's a will there is a way. Years ago I built a belly mount sickle mower and used it on my B. I used a power steering pump off a Chevy pickup for the hyds and it worked pretty well

If you are moderately skilled with linkages, measuring, fitting components, and welding, sure. If you start with positioning the mower where it needs to be, and look at brackets made for an A, or C, you can figure it out. Running a pull type finish mower might be much easier. Jim

Well I have had an L306 on my BN forsomething like 40 years so if your tractor is in good running condition it should work just fine.

The main question is if the mower comes will all the needed brackets and pulleys. Also if it is designed for the correct rotation.

Maybe I should try scanning and posting the directions that I got with this mower. It includes amnay other tractors so it can be a bit confusing.

I have a 1946 Farmall B with the that exact belly mower on it and it is a great little setup, mows well and easy to maintain.

Lfdfireman, any chance you could post a picture or two of your B for clayzigler?

I'd post pictures of my BN but with the L306 it might not be mounted exactly the same, don't want to confuse anyone.

The instructions I got with the L306 don't even mention the B or BN closest thing was the C.

The factory manual lift incorporates a lift assist spring. It is not hard to lift. I would not mess with hydraulics.

Here is a picture. Hope it works on this new phone.

If you look close the lever pulls on two chains that lift the deck. The spring is there to suspend some of the deck weight from the tractor. It could use a little stronger spring in this setup but it does help. Without the spring it takes about a 100 pound pull on the handle to lift the deck. I did have a front hydraulic pump on this tractor to lift a push blade I had on it to push snow. The pull of the pump eventually egged the keyway in the front crankshaft pulley. I did not need the blade any more so I got rid of the pump and reinstalled the manual lift. I like the manual lift better because I can lift the deck real quick in case I get into real tall tough grass or come up on an obstacle sticking out of the grass. When it was hydraulic, if I hit a real tough patch of grass and needed to raise the deck the extra horsepower needed to spin the pump under pressure when the engine was already at its limits would kill the engine. The hydraulic lift was neat and modern but the manual lift is so simple and straight forward I would never go hydraulic again on this rig. If you need pictures of the belt drive on the back of the tractor I can take another pic in the morning. The flat belt pulley is removed and a V pulley is installed. You need to have a clear mind to be able to figure out the belt installation and the belt needs to be fiddle string tight. When you lower the deck the belt tightens so you need to keep that in mind when tightening the belt. I usually tighten the belt with the deck raised, then lower the deck to check the tension. This has to be the most dependable mowing rig known to mankind. The power unit is a real tractor designed to do thousands of hours of hard work and the mower is built to industrial specks with easy to replace parts.

Yes, I would like to see additional photos. Where might I be able to locate a lever like that? I'm going to try and send you a photo or two of the deck, perhaps you can tell me if this looks doable. This mower is coming off of a Super C.

Your mower is a left hand throw and mine is right hand. Probably the only difference between the two is the routing of the belt. A woods dealer might have an old lift lever laying around.

The washers under the one bracket are taking up space where the casting on the tractor is broken off.

It is set up for a manual lift and works very well. Have done quite a bit of mowing and it has never had any issues at all.

been mowing with a B and Woods for over 50yrs use the hand lever no reason to need a hy system just to lift the mower

Taking the mower from the C and going to the B will require some doing as the mounts are way different you are going to need to make some stuff to do that better get a pic of one on a B to see just what you are going to make to mount it to the B I have the bracket needed for the right side that bolts to the place where the drawbar mounts.
