wd9 stuck throttle

I was given a WD9 a while back. It sat on the side of a mountain for maybe 40 years.Pulled it yesterday. It started almost immediately on the diesel side. The
thing runs wide open. No responce from the throttle. I had to shut down by switching to the gasside.Acctually it sounded great, ran smooth. So I think it will
begood. Any advise on why the throttle is stuck? how to fix? Thanks,Steve.

i find it hard to believe it started immediately, as they take 1/2 mile of pulling to finally fire up. unless u gave it some help with starting fluid, not the best thing to do on those engines as they like to be warmed on gas then switch over very smoothly if things are in good shape. you have to remove the pump and get things freed up in there. most times the rack will stick and it wont start on diesel.

WOW,that's almost one for the record book, to sit that long, and almost start, was there even any product's to absorb moisture out of the fuel then? A friend has a 9,000 Ford, he quite using it about 15 years ago, he claimed that started that buy pulling it, short distance! Good Luck with the 9, Steve!

TRY TAKING OIL FILLER OFF TOP OF PUMP PUT SOME PEHTREATING OIL ON RACK AND WORK THRODEL TO MAKE RACK IS MOVING SOUNDS LIKE RACK IS STUCK IN FULL SPEEDHAVE HAD THAT PROBLEM ON SOME OF THEM PUMPS OVER THE LAST 50 YR OF WORKING IH TRACTORS .

d rustlo is right it is the rack in the injector pump it should be free and able to move for throttle to work

Pulled in 5th about 30 ft and smoke started showing. But no start, not even a pop.Pulled about 100 yds till I put it in 4th,in 10 ft(or less) it was running.

thats pretty amazing . anytime i tryed that it took a long pull and smoke like a freight train till it started popping. maybe u had a really warm day.

I have have a 450 d that did that sitting just 3 years while I overhauled engine. I was kind of panicking when it was reving up more rpms then it is meant for and so my brain quit working and I snubbed it out in 5th when I could have just switched it to gas. I took the side cover off injector pump and linkage was stuck.

Sounds like the rack inside the injection pump might be stuck, which they will do after sitting. Take the oil filler off and look into the pump when you move throttle to see if the rack is moving. You can shoot some PB blaster or Kroil in there and work it back and forth, there is also a check valve in the top of the plunger that might be stuck and this will make it run wide open since the check valve releases excess fuel.
