A quick 560 update....

Just wanted to let you guys know that I pulled the glow plugs & cranked the engine over. There was no antifreeze in the cylinders. There weren't any signs of coolant out of the drain plug on the pan, either. Don't know where a gallon of coolant is hiding. If anything, it might just be in the block. Can't seem to find a block drain on a D282, so I'm not going to worry about it. Had some other odds 'n' ends to tend to & had to take the dog out while Mom's OT was here. Soooo.... I'm on my way back out to add fuel & prime the system. I'll see if that head gasket wants to seal on a short run of the engine, as per rustred's instructions, add hot water to the system & run it again & see if it still leaks. Well, lets see if I can do this right & get a dry fuel system to prime. Still my first endeavour into working on a diesel & not sure how things will turn out. Right or wrong, it's all a learning experience.

Retorque the head after running it I got a quarter turn on some of mine. Mine leaked after putting water in it too but it sealed right up after retorqueing it

you dont ever get all the coolant out . but anyhow your block drain is right in front of the dipstick. little brass wingnut. may as well leave those glow plugs out till you get fuel coming out injector lines , as leave them all cracked . these engines prime pretty easy. that will be like a decompression and easier on battery . all primed up and glow plugs warmed up and she will start in 2 revolutions.

Like rustred said the engine coolant drain by dip stick, sometimes they have a heater hose attached to it. Also some have a fuel primer before fuel filter. Crack screws on top of filters and fuel should flow out. Have injector lines cracked when you crank. Or you could just have someone pull you around the yard and tow in 5th until it starts and you wouldn't have to do anything.

Yep, found the drain. Didn't see it before because I was looking for it. One thing this tractor doesn't have is a primer. To some extent, I wish it did. Got the system primed anyhow & the tractor started. Much to my amazement. Then I found out the return line has a pinhole leak right before the elbow to the tank. Figures! I'm fixing that now & will post back later about a few other issues I've found.
