SMTA Question

Did the SMTA come from the factory with the "old" method of generator control? The "L" and "H" positions on the light switch?

Nope, they had a voltage regulator in the system as did all the letter series after WW II. I think the change occurred in about 47 or so. I think my 46 Cub has a voltage regulator, haven't been able to get on it since last fall, so don't remember for sure.
 
My SMTA is an early one, even has some Y castings from 1953. It has a three position light switch. I rewired it to 12 volt.
