Round IH belt??

What would a round belt get used for? Looks like a gigantic O-ring. Found on on eBay. About 1" dia & perfectly round. In a belt sizer, it'd probably stretch out to 48". Part number M80791. With that number, it might be for a combine? Don't know that I would have a use for it, just curious.

Used on some of the belly mount PTO driven mower where the belt goes around a couple 90 degree angles like on a Cub

the old hesston swathers used a round belt. i have one here.

your description is very close to the size of the belt used on the Mott Flail Mower on a cub, which I believe started out as IH, and later became Mott. The round belt was optional, and since the original was 5/8, one inch for a round belt would be about right. The round belt was an option, that cost about twice the price of a V-belt, so I doubt they sold many.

That's interesting. Was the round belt supposed to be more rugged? Would be neat to find the parts catalog that covers that conversion.

Been poking around on Google for some info about it. John's reply might be why I can't find anything. I'll have to keep an eye out for more info about them. Sounds interesting. Would be neat to find a mower with that setup on it.

The round belt does not have to make any "twists" as it goes around the 90 degree pulleys where it goes from vertical to horizontal to drive the mower.

here is the example on my old 300 hesston swather. you can see it drives the sickle pitman. my neighbour bought it new in 1972. it had the wisconsin VH4D Engine.

I can see how that would be a good way to go in such an application. Is that a belt you can even find anymore? Not sure how available parts are for older Hesstons. Never seen a 300 either. Neat looking machine.
