MW governor vs Farmall governor

My 43 H when I got it had what I believe was a M&W governor on it. It was a 3 weight unit instead of a 2 weight like Farmall governors I have seen. What would be the advantage to the M&W over the Farmall one. The guy I bought my tractor from used to take it to a local tractor pull back in the 60's so I'm assuming he changed it. The distillate manifold was changed out for a gas manifold. If mine is a M&W are they fixable if something happens. Mine got to where it wouldn't respond to the under load so I put a regular Farmall governor back on it.

They can be repaired if needed. The response to full throttle is slightly faster, (less RPM drop to full open). It makes Zero additional power or torque. I would leave the OEM style on it for normal use. It might be worth a bit to someone with a trailer queen, or a puller, so don't toss it. Jim

I think the M & W governors came with carb updates too. It was prior to 1960 that we upgraded one of the four H's that we farmed 800 acres with when I was in HS. We overhauled 1 each winter of my freshman, sophomore & junior year of HS. You could buy engine overhaul kits from TSC for less than $90 at the time.

I think you are correct. The carb improvements, if made and adjusted correctly could ad a bit of HP. Jim

Pullers grab those up. But I don’t know if you’d have a Thompson rocket 3 weight or the M&W which I thought was 4 weight.
Big $ for aftermarket governors in pulling, from 400-800$
Must be a prestigious thing cause my ol 2 weight just ran circles on em back in the day.
Maybe I need to get new stories
