Hydra Shuttle on a 1973 IH 3444

(quoted from post at 18:26:46 09/15/20) Is this hydra shuttle tranny pretty reliable? Is it complicated to work on it?
Anybody have one?

Expertise on IH construction equipment is hard to come by. They're not just farm tractors painted yellow. While there are some common parts between farm and construction, many of the differences are in the transmission.

IH sold out the construction division to Dresser back in the 1980's, and Dresser subsequently sold it to Komatsu. Komatsu has absolutely no interest in supporting these rare 40+ year old machines so parts are impossible to find.

So in short, nobody knows how to work on them and you can't get parts for the transmission.

If you are looking to buy, make sure you can get the tractor cheap because if the wrong thing breaks, the tractor is a paperweight.

Thanks for the reply B E .... the guy wants 1200 for it running condition but he said the coolant dropped into the oil. He drained the oil/coolant mix and found a piece of a o ring. He thinks one of the sleeve o rings has come apart and fell into the crankcase.
Apparently the engine has been totally rebuilt with new pistons, rings, bearings and even a new head cuz the old head was cracked. I wouldn't mind just replacing the bad O ring if thats all it is but kinda leary about it with all the work that has been done to it. It's got good looking tires on it so that's a plus
