Farmall M radiator again..

I asked the other day about an M that was running a bit warm. I took the radiator out and the radiator shop said it was plugged internally and they said the core is too weak to rod out. So I got a new radiator from Shoup....it wasn’t til I got home that I realized the one Shoup sold me is a 3 row core while the old radiator has 4 rows thick. Looks like it’d be $600 plus shipping to get me a 4 row. Is it really necessary? All the tractor does is run an 8” auger on one of my farms. Will the thinner radiator work or should I stick with one like I had. Thanks.

I needed a radiator for my M because it started spring pin hole leaks like crazy. After leaving it sit 5 years I finally just bought another M for parts for $350 and got a good radiator and a bunch of other parts I needed and have parts to sell. Much better than buying a $600 radiator.

Before I found a used radiator for Super MTA I was looking at aluminum radiator for it. It was less money and the aftermarket copper ones I have seen don't fit right and the brackets come loose at the solder joints. The only thing was the aluminum one didn't have a drain in the bottom. My tractor ran at the edge of the red with the aftermarket junk that started leaking in the tubes,4 core original that I found it barely gets off the cold mark.

you will be just fine. actually be better as it will warm up faster. sure not going to over heat running an auger. your tractor was running with a plugged rad before.

I have an older Farmall that doesn't have a water pump. My radiator started leaking and that's when I found out most of the radiator shops in our area are out of business. I was going to get a new radiator but was told not to because the new ones didn't have enough capacity for the older engines without a water pump. I finally found a fellow that would repair mine and I'm well pleased and saved a bunch of dollars.

The 3 row rad will be fine, but you may have alignment issues with the shroud and grill. Took 3 tried for Shoup to get me on close enough to fit. (This is assuming they still use to same supplier.)

Just look around for a good m radiator you will be happy with a good original one. New ones are junk I may have a good used one I have to look
