Hey all, I have a Hough 50 industial loader with a C301 gas in it. Seems that is really tired. Put in new push rods as one had the cup on the upper end beat out completly and one that broke. Believe the cam is probably bad from age, running to loose?
Any way would rebuilding it or maybe looking for a D361 be a better option? Will any other engine fit?

well the 361 and 407 are the same family of engines, they will out last your loader, but u got to put a return line in the fuel tank, also not a huge job, but u better get a tank if possible with it! Some of the 915-815 combines also used the 407 engine!
 
The 70 Hough loader,used the 429 engine, [the 4100 tractor engine] if the fuel tanks are the same, i have no idea on that!
 
A d361 will not work because the bell housing won't bolt to it without alot of extra work. Engines that will work is D301 D282 D236 ,C263,C291 all those are a the same family.
 
Would like a diesel, but maybe just rebuild my engine? Questions of life. How hard is it to find a complete D301 engine, and would the advantage of no carburetor and plugs and points be worth the trouble.
One more thing how durable is the C301?

I know D301's were in early 715 combines and I believe some cotton pickers. We have a hough 50 with a D282 that is the factory engine.
 
If I'm not mistaking that engine has no sleeves. So if the bores need to be rebored may not be feasable to rebuild, unless you might be able to just put in new rings. Also a c263 is basically the same and may be easy to find cheap and prabably better since it has sleeves.
