Farmall B steering repair

Our B had lots of slop in the steering - the steering wheel could be turned 70 degrees without moving the front wheels.

Although there is noticeable wear in the steering shaft U-joint, the real culprit was the ball bearing in front of the worm. That bearing takes the axial load in both directions. The old bearing was worn such that the inner race could be moved "back and forth" about 1/16". The new bearing is "tight".

Now I have only 20 degrees slop in turning the steering wheel, and no road gear shimmy.

I will post the bearing number if anybody wants it.

My steering U joint was shot on my BN. I took the shaft measurements ,went on ebay and found a race car steering joint with the right size for the shaft and welded it on. It'll last the rest of my life.

Yes please do the way CaseIH has destroyed the online parts books every source of information like this is very important.

I wish Case IH could understand that no one who is trying to restore and keep these old tractors running is likely to be in the market for a 2020 tractor. So why do everything they can to hide the old information?
