I have a 300 also but my front bolt and washer fell out of the front pto shaft. I have the tractor split by the flywheel area. Can I drive the pto shaft back enough to replace the big gear with broken teeth without removing that section of transmission from the rear half?

Center housing needs removed. Shaft doesn't have room to move back because next shaft to rear of it has just a small space between it and shaft you want to move back. Also a retaining ring at rear bearing of shaft. Shafts are connected by a seasonal disconnect or a solid spline coupling. You can see those parts when you remove the bottom cover next to transmission housing. One bolt you can see after cover removal needs removed along with bolts seen on outside for housing removal from transmission.
