Charging System 1950 Farmall H

Working on a 1950 Farmall H, SN: 349533, 6V, +gnd, lights and starter. It came with a three brush generator, and two unit voltage regulator. Generator has been reconditioned, but cannot find a voltage regulator that will work with a three brush generator. Have been told that I must change the generator to a two brush.

Generally an A circuit generator doesn't care what voltage regulator is used. The third brush can be moved to the greatest output
(closest to the ARM brush), and the regulator grounds the field circuit, adjusting the output to charge the battery. If you want
to keep it original, putting the matching regulator on it is still not correct, as it came with the 4 position light switch, and a
cutout. Jim

GO TO CAR QUEST or ADVANCED AUTO give the number of the gen and they can get you a reg for that gen AMERICAN
MADE thats what i do what do you have 1101355 or 1101423 for gen#

I usually just changed the old 3 brush generator over to a two brush if I was going to change from a manual Low High light switch control to
a full fledged Voltage Regulator. It might work if its an adjustable third brush and you adjust it for max charge.

This is where it gets confusing to me, as the IH parts manual lists voltage regulator #360898r91/Delco-Remy 1118780 which is a four post regulator as the correct item, and also lists Generator #354237r91/Delco-Remy 1100501 which is a three brush generator and these fit on SN: 340954 and up, which mine is 349533. Many of the voltage regulators I have found, i.e. GDR6003 state that it is a replacement for the above number but it is designed for A type circuits in +Gnd systems with 2 brush generators.

If you move the third brush as close as possible to the fixed brus, it will work. The 4 terminal regulator can be used. You can
leave the "L" terminal disconnected, or you can hook it to the light switch in place of the wire going to the amp meter. (remove
that one). Jim

didnt by 1950 using the 501 gen use a different mount like the Cs wasnt even close to the genas i thought on the H and Ms they were around the gas tank area the C had a mount under the gen on the 501 only the 423 and the 355 gens were saddle mounts is that correct
