i got the top shaft of the transmission out no issues, now comes the bottom shaft.how do you get the bottom shaft nut ( p/n 50838D) off and what direction are the threads??

The drive coupler "nut" is right hand threads. Turn CCW to loosen. Use a 1/2" bar stock about 2'-6" long to fit the slot.
Put the trans in hi gear, It can require a bit of impact on the bar to un-stick it. Jim

Sorta like Jim said but i might add ya need the special TOOL . You can make this TOOL with a piece of bar stock a 5/8th's to 3/4 inch nut and a welder . Ya weld the nut to the bar stock and make sure you get good penetration of the weld to the nut and bar stock . I perfer usen stick welding on this and i used a 7018 rod run at around 135-140 amps depending on the welder . Allow to cool then place it in the drive and put the impact wrench to it . I have two of them tools .

Well it seems someone welded that shaft nut on , o yes!!!

I would use a die grinder and cutoff abrasive wheel to cut it off just toward the bearing. if no joy, a little more to get it loose. The coupling (nut) is actually the countershaft retention to keep it forward in the housing. Getting it apart is needed to change gears and repair the transmission bearings. Probably need to shop for a new countershaft. Jim
