Need high quality points

My points keep wearing down where the rubbing block meets the distributor lobe . They are from NAPA . Distributor is new . Also , what is best grease to use on them ?

I've had good luck with points from Tractor Supply.

For breaker cam lube, use "magneto grease" if you can find it. Alternatively Sil-Glyde silicone grease (AKA Sil-Glyde silicone brake lubricant) or white lithium snowmobile grease both work fine. And I've even used gun grease on a few occasions with no issues.

That you have a new distributor suggests rubbing block wear may be due a problem with the breaker cam, not poor quality points. The cam should have a polished surface all around the circumference. If not will rapidly wear the relative soft rubbing block, even with proper lubrication.

A rusty or textured cam lobe or lobes will wear down good points in short order. Polish the lobe with 320 grit, then 600 grit paper, (roundy round, not in and
out) if they are pitted, it needs a new shaft. Removing the pitting would change the shape enough to change the timing/dwell on that lobe. Point grease is
found at auto stores. Jim
