Belt Size for Woods L50 Mower on Farmall Super C

I got the Woods L59 mower mounted on my Super C last night. Belt seems too short. I purchased the mower used and it supposedly came off a Farmall C. Does anyone know the length and/number for a belt for a Woods mower mounted on a Super C? This morning I will try to measure the belt I have. I have the brackets adjust as far back as I can without the mower hitting the rear wheel and the pulleys adjusted as short as I can. I have the manual and I am going to read through it again. It was getting late when I finished up so it is possible I missed something. Thanks in advance.

I measured it this morning. It is about 223 or 224 inches long. It is possible I routed it the wrong way as it got late last night. I will do some rechecking
later today. It is short by a mile!!

If you have a Woods L59 mower on your Super-C, and it is driven with the large pulley on the PTO, the manual shows it taking a Woods 11466 belt. That is a B255 belt, and from what you've written it sounds like that might be what you need.

Mine runs off a pulley where the belt pulley is connected (not the rear PTO). I know what you are talking about though. I have seen pictures of those really large pulleys connected on to the PTO shaft. Mine is a smaller pulley on the belt pulley shaft. You must have a better manual than I do. I looked and looked in mine and could not find out anything about a belt size. My manual has on the front "C-240," which I assume to mean it covers from the C through the 240, with the Super C, 200, and 230 in between. I keep looking and do not see how I put it on wrong but anything is possible. Thanks

I checked and my serial number on my mower reads 59 L-B or 1-B and the manual I have is for 59 HC-1 and on the front says "For Use on IH 'C' and '240.'" I do not know the difference among the 59 Woods mowers. I will see what I can find online at the Woods site. Thanks

I double checked and the Model Number on the serial tag is "59-LB-1."

On our C it runs off the belt pulley shaft, and uses B 225 I believe. But, they can be mounted a little differently to use a longer or shorter belt.

For the probably 225 belt I have to work, I would have to set the mower deck right in front of the right back wheel. Perhaps the previous owner did that because before I repainted the deck I saw where the rear wheel had rubbed the paint off the deck there. I did some crude measuring by wrapping a small rope around the pulleys. I came up with about 238 or so. I am going to try a belt about that size and see if it works....if I can find a belt where I can return it if does not.

Second issue is alignment of the pulleys. I have an International belly mower on an International A. The pulleys all align. One the Super C they do not. The smaller idle pulley comes close to aligning with the drive pulley...with enough washers. The larger idle that runs on the top of the belt does not. Don't know if this is critical or not.

I do appear to have a mower with a serial number for a Cub low boy or Cub 154, but it is on a pulley guard that fits a C or Super C. Go figure.

Any thoughts welcome. Thanks in advance.

Interesting. I assume you just set the touch control knobs so it does not lift too high or are just careful. I am just nervous that the for the 225 belt to work, it looks like the mower deck would just be a fraction of an inch away from the right rear wheel. Other than getting a new belt, any down side to setting the mower further forward? Its crazy wheels do not come close to the front wheels of the tractor. And I might have a 225 belt for sale cheep. Thanks

I moved the mower back to last notch and raised the idler pulleys up. I was able to get the 225 belt on. However, that makes the rear of the mower deck within 2 inches of the right rear tire. And, when I lift the deck, the mower deck is within half inch of the right rear tire. I suppose the 225 is the correct length and was being used on the Farmall C the mower came off of. However, there is a 233 inch belt that is available and I am going to order it and give me a little bit more room and flexibility with the idle pulleys. Raise up the deck and any mud on the rear tire would hit the deck or if the deck flexed much. Thanks much.

Well, curious how your doing with this project? Sounds like you were getting pretty close. Did the "directional genie" come out and add to your fun and games? I hope this eventually works out for you. My C is just sitting and not being used for anything now. Wish I had a mower deck to put on it and make it more useful. I ended up raking my hay with the 460 and never got to try the C out. Well keep us informed on how you make this work. I am interested in the outcome. Regards, John.

I put the 233 belt on yesterday. I have not tried the mower yet but it looks like it will work. I went ahead and put on the shields, which I hope does not jinx it. To get on the 225 belt I had to put the mower deck almost clear back against the rear wheel, and I am sure it would rub. To put the 233 belt on I could put the pins in the third hole from the furthest forward. The mower deck probably is eight or nine inches in front of the rear wheel versus being less than two inches in front of it. I doubt I will mow with it today but I probably will test it this week. Until I know differently, I am going to pretend that it works. I got the belt from JayDee Belts for I think $36 plus shipping. I ordered it on Tuesday and got it on Friday. I have gotten mower belts from them before and they have worked fine for years. The real test with this mower is when I actually go mow with it to see if the belts are the right direction, right tension, and idle pulleys lined up right, etc. The blades turn clockwise. Hope this helpful. I see Woods mowers occasionally and for some reason some (but not all) are priced reasonably. I suppose people buy a tractor with a mower and do not want the mower. Good Luck.

I finally got around to mowing with the tractor and mower. Went about ten feet and I had to adjust the PTO shield. The pulley was hitting it. Went another ten feet and belt came off. Turns out one of the two bolts that hold the rear piece to the axle broke. Went town and got a grade 5 bolt. Put it on and mowed for about an hour and half. Everything works.

A little getting used to the tractor. The last time I used the tractor extensively was 1961. My father died in early summer 1962 and my mother sold it on the auction that fall to my uncle. I finally got it back about 10 years ago.

To add to the story, when put it away, I noticed liquid on the left side under the alternator. Took the hood off and the water pump pulley is a little wobbly and some antifreeze leaking out. So I assume I need a new water pump. Also some oil coming from the governor shaft (I think). So more work on the old girl.

I doubt I will use it a lot but I wanted something on it to exercise it occasionally. It is a lot harder steering than the 1946 International A for which I have a belly mower on. No touch control on it, but lot easier to steer. So the saga continues.
