Where did all the Flo-Raters go?

One would thing there would be an abundance of them seeing how there were exponentially more IH dealers historically than there are CaseIH dealers now. Were they problematic & nobody hung on to them? Outdated & scrapped when Case Tenneco took over? I'm having a hard time believing there isn't one out there. Maybe Tractor Vet is hogging them all? ;v) Sure would be nice to find one. Not interested in a newfangled one either.

Found one on craigslist a few years ago, had spider webs on it must have been sitting for a while, an OTC, works great, $300. Money well spent. Guy couldn't say much about it, really didn't know what it was I guess.

Well usually dealerships only had one , when the PFC system came out they made a unit to hook into the OLD flow rater so you could use them on the PFC's ( would love to have one As i did try and drove 7 hours to a sale to TRY and Buy one but it was a pkg deal as they were selling the anilizer with the flow rater and this dealership had TWO flow raters ,) One was a 50 GPM unit like mine with the annilizer and the other was a newer one that went to 125 GPM and 10000 Psi . Mine is 50 GPM and 5000 Psi rated . That day at that sale you could have bought one of the THREE lap top computers with the Magimum soft ware pkg for less then what the flow raters brought as i chased the little one to 2750 and the big one was still going up when i walked away at 5200 No i was NOT in the bidding on that one . If you have a flow rater let me say this , The hoses you use for it make sure they are rated for more then what your testing , the hoses i have are rated for 5500 PSI . A rebuilt OTC like mine last i saw OTC wanted like 3700 and change and for the BIG ones for todays systems your not going to find one of them setting in somebodys barn . The day i bought mine i was really shocked that i was the only bidder on it and there was three I H dealers standing there at the sale and you would have thought that they would JUMP on them to have and Extra one for the shop or service truck , BUT like everything else i bought there was NO serious money on any of it and it took me a day and a half and two trips to haul it all away with a one ton Ford with a 9 foot flat loader to the top of the cab both trips and the cab was full on the passenger side as well with the small stuff.

when i kick off ya'll can fight over it and do battle with the War Dept , BTW she knows what it worth . She is the reason the Indians ran up the white flag and the Buffalo almost went extinct .

Well, there are flow raters and then there are flow raters. We had the original one IH started using in the early 60's. It worked great compared to just having gauges to work with. But, we had to update to a inline flow rater as time went on. That just means you hooked it so flow went right back into system and not dumped to reservoir. Then we got the analyzer hook up that connected to that one for the PPH systems.

Story on PPH. IH started off refering to it as PFC. CASE jumped all over them so they called it PPH. Few years later it didn't matter.

I used either depending on what I was working on. The original one had the low pressure gauge that kicked off at high pressure. Purpose was so you could test the bypass (neutral pressure) on the 560 etc style of hydraulic system. Newer one didn't have that feature.

At Deere we had a much simpler inline flow rater that had a sight glass type you looked to see how far it moved with gpm lines on it. (something like that anyway).

I have one of these inline flow raters, I got mine from Hy-Capacity if I remember correctly. There are other places that you can find them. I included a picture of the Baum Hydraulics catalog.
