#1 I checked hyd fluid levels and it show a bit over full on the dip stick like maybe an inch above the full mark.
#2 none of the indicator lights work so using that to help trouble shoot is out.
#3 fired it up and tried the steering and it did not want to turn and trying to was hard and the steering wheel was jerky. Pull both the hyd remote control levers and tried the steering again and it did steer both left and right for a bit then get hard and jerky again.
#4 tried the brakes and both pretty much go to the floor but have not opened them up to inspect the disk condition as of yet

There is not even a wire to the for lack of better term the probe on the MVC. So I wonder if I could hook my test light to the probe tab and the battery and use it to indicate things. Both the operator and I-T that came with it are lacking a whole lot of info

Rich,
You are not going to like what i have to say but..

I once had a 856 doing the same as the one you are working on. I spent untold hours reading the IH shop manual, checking pressures, etc.

Put a new MCV pump and a reman TA in it and all is well.

It has a new MCV in it. TA as far as I know has not been touched. This tractor put my shop at its almost no can do stage as big as it is

I do not believe you can buy a new MCV anymore for them. I think they have to come from a salvage yard then overhaul it yourself, or have someone that can do them for you. Like TV said the flows and pressure rates are what make them a not simple throw parts at them and be fixed. Not saying you are doing that. Just it is a bit more involved than appears by looking at them. Though I have never had to replace nor do much with them.
I will venture to guess somebody either got a bad pump or an o-ring is not in place. It could also be a blown gasket between the plate and the valve. I had the gear come off the pump shaft one time on the rear pump so I suppose that could have happened too. I would worry more about the steering issue and I think the brakes will come around to working when that does. The brakes on those models 06,56,66,were pretty easy and durable.

Drain it down to the full mark, and see if that is 5 gallons. (tractor level!!!) if it is, that isn't the problem if not put in more Hytran. Does it make a difference if the TA is one way or the other? It is the best I have. Jim

At this point I am not sure where the TA is so I'll have to look it over more. But it just came in yesterday so I have not done much other then try to research things

At this point I can only go by what the owner said he or others have done. He told me the MVC was replaced and he showed me the old on an a bunch of springs and o-rings and a diagram of where what went

Old The TA is inside the middle section. there are 3 tubes that run from the MCV to the TA via the casting housing. They each have an o-ring on the tube ends where they come through the casting. The MCV gasket and o-rings seal these along with the other things. I suppose you could have a leaking o-ring there or a blown gasket.

Some jobs are best left alone.

You might be in over your head on ability to work on this big of equipment, I turn down the big stuff.
