I have Farmall 450,we rebult the engine ,en we are looking for the torque of the headbolts and the connecting rod bolts.
the engine is a D-264

Hello Bert welcome to YT! Are you putting a 400
engine in your 450? A diesel 450 had a D281 engine
originally. I suspect the torque values the vet gave
you are the same for either. Just be thankful that is all
he had to say. And Steve’s comment was a little
straightforward, but he is just trying to show how
important having a manual to follow is. I am certain if I
was overhauling one of those gas to diesel switch
over engines knowing how expensive they can be I
would have a manual handy for reference. Good luck!

Thanks for the info.
I come from the Netherlands, why this engine in this tractor I dont now.
It was so when we buy him.
He get water at the oil, now we get new cylinder liners and new piston rings.
A company put the new cylinder liners in the engine.
This is precise work , so we let it do.
There are not so many books here from this tractor,
And you all say this not the good engine.

It is a fine and economical engine. The only problem is that it needs to be cooled down for 5 minutes after full work load, and warmed up for 5 minutes befor
applying full load. The cool down should be done running on diesel, not switched to gasoline. Diesel runs much cooler than gasoline at idle, and that is what
is desired. (I owned one for years and had no problems) Parts are rare and expensive, that is the difficult issue. Some of us have manuals and are willing to
copy pages as needed. I sold my MD for 2000 (with a fabricated 3 point hitch) and gave the manual to the new owner. It is still operating. Good luck, we can and
will help. Jim

Just want to make sure about something. Since your from the Netherlands could you have the British built engine and it be a B-450 tractor . If so I think they still used a 264. If it's the British built engine 110 to 115 foot pounds for head stud nuts. Connecting rods 55 to 60. Main bolts 150 to 170. Valve clear adjustment .020 hot or cold.
