acid in stuck engine

My self I would not use any type of acid. I have how ever used ATF and or Turpentine to free them up and have good luck with both

I knew a fellow that had all sorts of tricks up his sleeve. He would use phosphoric acid on engines that were really stuck to convert the rust in the bore, if it had aluminum pistons dont leave the acid in too long or he would use something weaker like Diet Coke. Just dont try an oil based product before acid because it will coat the metal and not let the acid work.

I have used Coca Cola in the past. The Carbolic Acid in the coke will eat at the rust. I had a Super W6 with cast iron pistons that was well stuck. Filled the cylinders with coke and let it sit. I would refill every couple of days. I also was beating on the pistons with an oak "punch" and a hammer. Took about a week to get it free.

Grandpa's SMTA was stuck from nobody driving it for about 20 years. But it was in the barn the whole time and not out in the rain. I removed all spark plugs, noting wire numbers, filled the cylinders with some generous squirts of Kroil, and then jacked up one wheel and put it in 5th road gear and daily would resquirt the kroil and rock the tire gently back and forth. It freed up after a few days. I can't definitvely state the cylinder wall condition but I think decent as it wasn't sitting outdoors.
