Super H Hydraulics

I am normally on the Ford N series forum, but I have recently acquired a Farmall Super H that my Dad has owned for many years. He had some rebuild work done on it and repainting in 2016. My question is -- it
has the live hydraulics box on it (which I think the 300 had) and the battery under the seat, would this have been how it came from the factory or would it have been changed post factory? My Dad always called
it the 53 1/2 because of this 'other than' characteristics.
I do need to find some detailed info on these hydraulics. Hoses, connections and levers all over this thing, and I'm curious how it really was meant to work. He currently only has one single acting cylinder
on it, so not like he needs a bunch of hydraulics to run, just fun to know and explain what it could have done in the day.
Thanks for your help.

You have a 'Stage 2' SuperH.That is the later one. The hydralic tank under the gs tank with the hydralic pump on the distributor.Yes that is the factory set up.They even had an (optional) two-way valve for them, too.repost the serial number so we can identify the year.I had a 'Stage 1' with the 'belly pump'. Great little tractor. Gave it to my sister.Should have kept it.

If the ID and serial number plate on left of clutch housing is longer from front to back of tractor, you probably have what they now call a stage 2 SH. Left and right side is if you were sitting in the seat. Best thing would be to get a operators manual that will answer most of your questions. Manual IH number 1004373R1 works. Also 1004371R1. Serial number 19234 and higher was when that type SH stared being built in November of 53. If it has a serial number 22202 or higher it is a 54 model. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I've been a 'red driver' for many years for my Dad and Uncle, but this is really my first jump into wrenching on them in any significant manner. I'll probably be around this forum a bit more in the future.
Side note -- I've seen the Super H-TA that I'm pretty sure is fake at Farmall land in Avoca IA. This would have been a fun tractor design. Did they ever plan production for this? I hope to go to Farmall land one last time here in September. Quick drive, and I've only been once. Shame on me.

Probably not important one way or another, but the 300 hydraulic valve system design was quite different from what was placed on a Super H. Other than the main reservoir was below the gas tank in front of your feet. I will attach a parts diagram of the Super H hydraulics. I use a site called avspare, since the IH site quit listing all the part numbers and descriptions. If you go to number 4 in the small print above the diagram heading you can view all the part sections for your tractor.

I've seen lots of pictures of that Super H-TA, and I'll also see it in person and take several pictures of it too before 9-27-2020. There's probably HUNDREDS of SH-TA's. It's funny, neighbor we traded help with and even farmed 80 acres together asked that question back about summer of 1969, might have been '68 even, "Did IH ever make a Super H-TA?" As we're sitting there waiting to start baling 20 acres of hay with my Super H parked out of the way which I ran over with our hay rack in tow, and we watched the neighbor finish raking hay with his 350 FARMALL in the low side of 5th. I always raked around 5 mph in 4th gear, 10 mph way too fast. We decided FARMALL only built Super M-TA's because there was at least one on every block of the county! I've regretted Dad trading our SM-TA for the 450 spring of '65, I spent a lot of seat time on that tractor when I was 9 & 10 years old, but I lived on that 450 on weekends and all summer from '65 to '68. Day I remember best was running the SM-TA home early spring of '63 freshly repainted, was in March, snow was almost all gone, anything that wasn't paved with blacktop or concrete was muddy. I pulled it up the driveway by the house and took several pictures of it. Wish I still had them! Or the tractor! I'll have a SM-TA someday! I don't want a SH-TA, the 300 & 350 both offer better hydraulics than the SH. The stage 2 SH I have had since May 8, 1968 will remain an SH.

Thanks for the insights and stories. There is always a bit more than paint and iron underneath these tractors.
