F350 drawbar pivot mounting bracket....

Does the mounting bracket for a 350 have the same bolt pattern as an H or is it wider? I have the bar from a 350 & would like to use it on my H. The one that's on there now is starting to hang down.... & nobody likes a droopy drawbar. Lol! Bent the dumb thing moving my NH Stackcruiser around. Hoping the heavier bar from a 350 will hold up to all the tongue weight.

Thanks,
Mike

I think both the plain loop and swinging drawbar on a 350 should be thicker. This may prove the need for the pivot from the more powerful tractor. Jim

Good point! I didn't think about the U shaped drawbar itself. It was reenforced years ago with a second drawbar that was a cutoff welded to it. That does not cover the whole thing though. The angled supports that you can use to raise or lower it might have been heavier on the 350 also. I'll have to research that.

Thanks,
Mike

Are you Sunday couch testing your proposed plan? If you looked under the tractor and you are talking about the swinging drawbar you would see there is a pin that is held in with a bolt that drops out and the draw bars can be interchanged. I tried to look up both to compare but avspare the site I use that still shows all parts numbers does not have the ..attachments.. section for the 350. And the Messicks site which I am guessing pulls it info from the new CaseIH page does not show the part number. My guess is that they will interchange without changing the front bracket. Unless the 350 drawbar is to thick. Will attach the link to the H parts diagram, I assume you are talking about part 20. If the diagram is fuzzy click it to open as a clear picture.

I found the attachments list for the 350. It shows the part number for the swinging drawbar pivot support as being the same as the H. If that's the case, I wonder if the drawbar is for a 400 or 450. Didn't actually pull it off of a tractor. It was on a pallet of parts I got from an auction. Always thought the M-450 bars were a bit longer though. Hmmm..... looks like I'll have to grind down the drawbar some to make it fit.

Maybe a late parts book shows the same pivot for a H and 350, but they were different. One from a 350 had a wider opening for drawbar. compared to most H ones. Early H had to be unbolted from rear housing to get pivot pin out. Same bolt pattern for pivot castings.

Where or how did you find the ..Attachments.. section, was it on avspare? Been using that site about a month now and this was the first time I found it to not include a section that is on the CaseIH page.

I'll have to poke around & see what I can find. Do you know if the H, M & subsequent number series models have the same length drawbars? Could have
sworn the distance between the pivot pin & drawbar strap was different between the two of them. Could be wrong though.

Here ya go. It is indeed on AVSpare. Breezed past it a couple times myself. It's between the "Section (350) - FARMALL GAS TRACTOR (1/56-12/58) Case:
" header & where it says (00) - GENERAL. Well, under the line, Assorted Packages & Sets to be a bit more precise.

Try here....

350 Draw bar is 1 inch thick and 2.25 wide. 400 is 1 inch thick and 2.5 wide. Around 2-3/8 difference from pin hole to rear support holes not counting the bend since a 400 or M has a deeper rear housing to go under. Implement hole around 1.5 inches back more on a 400. Without measuring the bend, from rear of pivot hole to center of implement pin hole is around 48-5/8 on a 350 and 50-1/2 on a 400. Hardly ever find two used ones the exact same measurement.

Have ground some material out of top of lower web to make opening bigger on some M brackets to install a thicker drawbar. Never needed to do it on a H yet. Measured a bracket I removed from a 50 H, number 8842D and the opening was 15/16. Bracket 8785D for a SH has about a 1-3/16 opening. Think it was used on some H tractors. Have a one from a 350 on the tractor that is 1-3/16 opening. Can't read number on tractor but it may be a replacement bracket. Looks like Number 383256R1. Where front bolt goes bolt hole is full thickness of bracket and uses a long bolt in hole.

An internet search returned the 383256R1 support as being for a 504. One of the sites lists it for use on a 400 or a 504. I wonder if the rear end was
the same between the two or if IH just stuck with a part they already had a pattern for?

Mike

H and 504 are small housing tractors compared to a 400. Same bracket that fits a H will bolt to a 504. M, 400 ETC. uses a different bolt pattern and 7/8 bolts compared to 3/4 for others. Looked up some info. When a one inch drawbar was used on a H replacing the thinner drawbar, bracket 8785D was needed with drawbar. 350 also used that bracket or 8785DA and also 460 tractors. Later on 383256R1 was a replacement part for 8785. Parts book I have shows 8785DA used on a 460. But since a 460 and 504 builds overlapped some years I suspect part of the 460 used 383256R1.
