I have a 51 W-4. Use it mainly to move the boat around with a hitch on the front end. Pulls a firewood wagon at times also.

Used one back in the 1970's - the old farmer I worked for used it to power the silage table blower and buzz saw with an endless belt. Also pulled some hay wagons. Always wanted one since then because it was so unique. Finally got one about 10 years ago - watched an old neighbor use it with a front mounted buzz saw for years. After he died it just sat, and I caught his son there one day and bought it on the spot. It always starts no matter how cold outside - I have done no repairs, just some long overdue maint things - tough old girl. Hope to take it to the antique pulls at the local fair, even bought a heavy equipment trailer last fall. But the nnalert shut all that down. Maybe next year.

Enjoy it - its a fun little machine to own, easy to work on.

Is it me or did those models always steer hard. I have only driven one that steered decent and all the rest I have been around you needed two gorillas and four men to be able to steer them. The one that steered good was a W-4.

I don't think they steer hard if the thrust bearings on the spindles are not wornout or rusted solid a W9 actually steers easier than a W6 which in my opinion is the hardest steering of the 3

Hello All,

Where should I start now?
The stuff I know...
-6 volt battery fully charged and one year old
-generator serviced yesterday, the 3 brushes are in excellent condition
-cut-out was serviced yesterday and is fine, back on tractor
-ammeter guage is not registering anything
-tractor runs as long as I keep charging the battery with my charger
-wiring is in bad shape and I'm thinking it should all be rewired, however it would be nice to find which wire coming from the ammeter towards generator is not working as I'd really like to hook the lights up and put my new LED bulbs in....

What should be the path forward based on this information and where should I begin trouble shooting. Lights are disconnected as they were draining the battery as is...

(quoted from post at 09:05:46 08/28/20) Hello

Does anyone have one of these? I have a 1947 I am currently fixing up and would like to connect.

Hello Diva, it seems like the wonderful two view systems YT maintains to appease some of the natives here are not playing well with each other. I assume you have posted on ..Modern.. view. For some reason the 2 views are not syncing correctly which seems to be an occasional problem. You have some replies including a couple of mine on ..Classic.. view. Choose Classic View in the top header and go to the Farmall and IH topic section there you will see some replies there to your technical questions. Sometimes I wish the forum mods would just say we are supporting one view style from here on out like it or leave it. Sorry, just venting a little. For most part this is a good group of folks here very willing to help you out with old tractors.
