I need some more advice with my Cub. I was looking under it and noticed an opening which a gear is showing. This is behind the oil pan. Is this suppose to look like this or is a cover missing?

Had to go out and check mine.

Yes, there is a steel cover (about 16 gauge steel) that covers the hole. There are bolts that go thru the holes there to attach it.

Can't post the photo I just took for some reason.

That is the flywheel and ring gear. They are not lubricated, and are only used for seconds when starting. There is supposed to be a cover plate on the hole, but it is not a sealed compartment. The plate keeps dirt and mice (sometimes) out of the clutch and clutch mechanism. I will post a illustration if I can vind it. Jim

Here is the part layout. It is illustration number 3. There is no part number in the book, I can't help there. Jim
